“This is a major-league season. Things happen. We’ve got a big taste of it already. You play the game in front of you, you play with the guys you have, and then you go from there. That builds resilience.”
— Craig Counsell, manager of the Chicago Cubs

With a 162-game regular season, plus six weeks of Spring Training and possibly playoff baseball in October, no sport is a better metaphor for life.

Many things will confront a player and team over that period of time – injuries, slumps – you name it, it’s going to happen. And you’re not going to feel your best every day.

The best teams and players don’t look behind or ahead. They play the game in front of them one pitch at a time with whatever it is they have on that day.
The same is true for us.

Today, play the moment that’s in front of you. Don’t wish it were different. Just do your best with what you’ve got.
