“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
This article is dedicated to the dreamers whose dreams to play and/or coach a game that means so much to so many, came true and who are unconditionally committed to the youth of Africa, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, Europe and the world… who now have and live with the same dreams. It all begins with the same shared ambition, vision and mission of the American Baseball Coaches Association, European Baseball & Coaches Association, and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

There are moments in life when a single story reminds us why hope matters. This is one of those stories.
From the sun-soaked fields of Curaçao, where children learned to play baseball on glass sharded fields with little more than a dream, emerged one of the finest players…human-beings, the game has ever known: Hensley Filemon Acasio Meulens, aka “Bam Bam.”
His journey from humble beginnings to the highest level of professional baseball is far more than a story of athletic achievement—it is a testament to perseverance, character, gratitude, and the extraordinary power of believing in something greater than yourself.
His life reminds us that greatness is never defined by where you begin. It is defined by the courage to continue when the path is uncertain, by the humility to remember those who helped along the way, and by the willingness to give back so that another child may discover the same dream.
That is why charitable organizations dedicated to children matter. They do far more than provide equipment, meals, scholarships, or opportunities. They provide hope. They tell a child, “You matter. Your circumstances do not determine your future.” They remind every young person that dreams are reserved for anyone, as long as they are willing to pursue them with passion, discipline, and faith.
People often say baseball is just a game. They could not be more mistaken. Baseball is life. It teaches patience when nothing seems to go your way. It teaches resilience because failure is not the exception—it is part of the journey. It teaches humility when success arrives and perseverance when it does not. It teaches accountability, respect, sacrifice, trust, teamwork, and love for something larger than ourselves.
No classroom, no lecture hall, and no university can fully teach what a season of baseball teaches those who embrace it with an open heart. From kindergarten to High Table in Oxford University, education shapes the mind. Baseball shapes the person.
It is not about me. It is not about you. It is about us.
It is an open table where everyone has a place. A family brought together by a shared dream. A game where backgrounds disappear, languages become secondary, and character becomes the common language.
Every season begins with hope. Every game begins with possibilities. Every child who picks up a glove believes, if only for a moment, that tomorrow might be their day.
Es beginnt mit einem Traum… und es endet mit einem Traum. It begins with a dream and it ends with a dream, as dreams do come true. Believe me.
When the stadium lights finally grow dim, the last bag of Cracker Jacks has been sold, the final cheer echoes through the ballpark, and a young child watches in silent admiration as their hero disappears into the clubhouse, something remarkable happens.
A life is changed. Perhaps not because of the score. Not because of a home run. Not because of a championship. But because a child leaves this magical place believing that greatness is possible. That hope is real. That character matters. That kindness matters. Those dreams are worth pursuing.
Baseball is a game of anticipation and uncertainty. It is filled with twists and turns, victories and defeats, confidence and doubt, fear and joy, triumph and heartbreak. It demands resilience, rewards perseverance, and continually reminds us that tomorrow offers another opportunity.
It is fueled by passion and displayed with pride. It builds friendships that last a lifetime.
It creates families that extend far beyond bloodlines. It teaches us that our greatest victories are often measured not by what we accomplish for ourselves, but by what we inspire in others.
That is why baseball endures. That is why children dream. That is why organizations that invest in young people change their lives. Because baseball is not merely played between the foul lines.
It is lived every day in the hearts of those who believe that one act of kindness, one encouraging word, one coach, one teammate, one volunteer, one parent, or one opportunity can forever alter the course of another person’s life.
Baseball is more than a game. Baseball is more than a sport.
Baseball is life. Period.
