The Durham Bulls hosted 68 women in a four-team baseball tournament from Aug. 1-3, 2025. The tourney is the modern-day incarnation of the All-American Girls Baseball League that existed from 1943 to 1954. The teams wore throwback uniforms from the fabled teams of that league: The Rockford Peaches, the Racine Belles, The South Bend Blue Sox, and the Kenosha Comets. An MLB Play Ball clinic took place on the field before the tournament.

The All-American Women’s Baseball Classic was the brainchild of Sue Zipay who played in the orginal league, and with her passing in the spring of 2025, she leaves a legacy of impact for thousands of girls getting to play the game they love.
Girls Baseball has been thriving and growing in America, and there is a wave of outstanding players who have played their entire lives:

The organization Baseball For All has been a major catalyst in the rise in interest for girls, particularly with their 11th annual National Tournament at various locations around the country;

MLB has been incredible in identifying and supporting girls baseball in national development camps;

USA Baseball, who sponsored the tournament in Durham, features a Women’s Team USA national team that competes internationally;

And in the summer of 2026, the Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) will begin play in their inaugural season.
