There’s a difference between losing and being defeated
“Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.”
— Marilyn vos Savant
I once told a Major League pitcher that if I just watched him pitch without looking at the scoreboard, I would never know how many runs he had given up. Regardless of how the game was going for him, he looked exactly the same on the mound. You could not tell after he threw a pitch whether he was happy with it or not.
When I mentioned this to him he explained that he never wanted the hitter to see him frustrated. Not only was he not going to give the hitter the satisfaction of seeing him upset, he also did not want the hitter to know that the pitch he had just thrown was a mistake. Better to leave the hitter wondering whether he meant to throw that pitch in that spot.
In life, if you can absorb a setback, find the lesson in it, find the good in it, regroup, smile and continue to move forward so you become an unstoppable force.
